The REJC is looking for three community members to fill the seats of Refugee/ Immigrant, Low-Income Seat and Environmental Justice.
As part of the Equity in Sustainability Initiative, the REJC is made up of community members and local government officials working together to integrate voices and concerns of our communities into City decision-making through the Office of Sustainability. This initiative comes from the desire to shift the structures that have contributed to inequities based on race in Providence.
REJC Roles and Responsibilities:
- Participate in 6 REJ Committee meetings and help host up to 6 base meetings
- Support REJ Committee meetings by taking notes (rotating responsibilities), support outreach, and drive participation for base meetings, and being an active participant.
- Review public feedback from base meetings
- Review and provide final recommendations for implementation plan
Required Commitment:
This is a commitment from November 2017 to June 2018 requiring significant time and effort (approximately 10 hours per month) including attendance at all REJ Committee meetings and a two-day racial equity training (see dates in application below).
Stipend, Support, and Training:
Each REJ Committee member will receive an honorarium of $1300 for their participation. Childcare at meetings, accommodations for people with disabilities, and interpretation/translation, will also be provided. Members will receive training on: Undoing Racism®, base building, facilitation, environmental justice, and connecting environmental sustainability to social and economic issues faced by communities
