PROVIDENCE, RI — Mayor Brett P. Smiley today announced the City of Providence is now accepting nominations for its twenty-third annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Individuals inducted to the MLK Hall of Fame are civic leaders that support the legacy of Dr. King and embody his work here in Providence.
“Dr. King’s legacy lives on through people who choose to serve their neighbors, stand up for justice and strengthen their communities each and every day,” said Mayor Brett Smiley. “Providence is proud and grateful to have so many residents and leaders who embody each of these values through their tireless work and dedicated service to others. I look forward to recognizing those who have helped make Providence the inclusive, welcoming city we all know and cherish.”
Letters of nomination will be accepted beginning today until November 30. Nominees must be a resident of Providence or have accomplished a significant amount of community work in Providence. Letters should be no more than two pages long and specify how the nominee exemplifies the spirit of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s commitment to equity, civil rights and justice.
