The City of Providence is currently looking to engage residents in service through Boards and Commissions, including the Providence Human Relations Commission. Applications are sought on a rolling basis for new members to serve three-year terms on the Providence Human Relations Commission, starting in 2019.
The purpose of the Providence Human Relations Commission is two-fold: to foster mutual understanding and respect among the city’s diverse populations, and, to ensure equal opportunities for all Providence residents in housing, education, employment, credit, and public accommodations. The Commission works to empower the people of Providence through education, advocacy, and collaboration, ensuring access to resources, protection of rights, and promotion of positive community relations.
Members serve three-year terms upon appointment by the Mayor and approval by City Council. The Commission typically meets at 5:30pm on the first Tuesday of each month, with agendas and minutes posted to the Secretary of State’s Open Government and Providence Open Government portal.
