Road Closures, Detours and Parking Details Announced for Week of March 17
Providence, RI – In preparation for March Madness, the City of Providence has compiled essential information regarding road closures, parking options, detours and other logistics to ensure a smooth experience for residents, businesses and the thousands of basketball fans anticipated to visit Providence in the upcoming week.
“March Madness is an incredible time for Providence, bringing together fans, local businesses and neighbors to celebrate the excitement of college basketball,” said Mayor Brett P. Smiley. “We are committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone attending, and we appreciate support from neighbors and visitors as we navigate these necessary road closures and public safety logistics.”
To accommodate the influx of fans and event-related activities, several roads will be closed at specific times:
- Aborn Street (Between Washington and Westminster Streets)
- Thursday, 3/20 8 AM to Monday, 3/24 at 8 PM
- Adrian Hall Way (Between Fountain and Washington Streets)
- Wednesday, 3/19 at 8 AM to Sunday, 3/30 at 12 AM
- Mathewson Street (Between Lucie Way and Fountain Street)
- Thursday, 3/20 at Midnight to Sunday, 3/23 at 5 AM
- Peck Street (Between Pine and Friendship Streets)
- Thursday, 3/20 at 10 AM to Sunday, 3/23 at Noon
- Union Street (Between Fountain and Washington Streets)
- Thursday, 3/20 at 7 AM to Monday, 3/24 at 7 AM
- Westminster Street (Between Orange and Dorrance Streets)
- Saturday, 3/22 from 8 AM to Midnight
- Westminster Street (Between Snow and Empire Streets)
- Thursday, 3/20 at 8 AM to Monday, 3/24 at 8 PM
Street parking will not be available on West Exchange Street from Fox Place to Dean St., Starting Tuesday, March 18 at 6 AM to Saturday, March 22 at 11:30 PM. To alleviate traffic congestion and ensure accessibility, visitors are encouraged to utilize public transportation, micromobility and ride sharing, and designated parking areas.
Available parking garages include:
- Providence Place Mall Garage
- Convention Center Garage
- Biltmore Garage
In partnership with the City of Providence, Spin will deploy corrals throughout Downtown where users of Spin scooters and bikes will be required to park Spin vehicles. The City will also deploy Spin’s Visual Parking System (VPS) which guides users to proper parking areas. The corrals and VPS will go into effect in Downtown on March 19. Riders in other Providence neighborhoods will not be affected.
The Providence Police Department will have an increased presence to ensure public safety. Attendees are advised to follow all posted signage and detours.
