INFORMATION FOR BIDDERS ON PROPERTY LISTED FOR TAX SALE
The 2020 tax sale was held virtually on August 26, 2020. As in prior years, pre-registration will be required to participate in future tax sales. Once future tax sales have been announced, the links to register will appear here and allow you to download and complete the City’s Affidavit that you do not owe taxes on any other properties in the city and to register with the online platform host, Civic Source. You must register with both the City and Civic Source.
We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the on-line tax sale process, which is used in other jurisdictions. There are tutorials and other information available through Civic Source, and you can contact them by phone or email.
The primary differences:
- there is no auctioneer calling out the properties individually.
- when the auction begins, all the properties on the tax sale list will be available to bid on.
- RI Housing properties will be listed but bidding will already be closed on those properties.
- Bidding down: the first bidder offering to pay for a property automatically is given 100% interest, all subsequent bidders can enter what percent of the interest they will accept, down to 1%. If someone has already bid a lower percent of interest than you, your bid will be rejected. See the tutorial entitled “Proxy bidding” at https://www.civicsource.com/support/investment/
