PROVIDENCE, RI- The City of Providence today announced that a new vendor, PM AM Corporation, will begin to oversee the False Alarm Management and Alarm Permits throughout the City. The implementation of this upgraded technology will allow citizens and businesses to receive online notifications related to registration, processing, renewals, on-line billing and other important information related to their accounts. The process to apply for a new residential or commercial alarm system will begin on February 1, 2024. Failure to register may result in additional fees.
The City’s Code of Ordinance Chapter 16, Article IV. – Security Alarm Systems, requires Providence residents and businesses to register the use of any alarm system, with the exception of car alarms and life alert systems.
The City of Providence adopted this ordinance in 2019 to reduce the amount of time and resources used by public safety officials in responding to false security alarms. Under this policy, an alarm user will be subject to fines related to false alarms within a 12-month period. False alarms occurring at registered, unregistered or expired locations will be sent a warning notice for the first and second false alarm, $100 for the third, $200 for the fourth, $400 for the fifth and $500 for six or more false alarms. Fines must be paid within 30 days. If an alarm is unregistered, the user may receive an additional $100 fine.
Residents and business owners can register or update permits, process payments, view the ordinance or download a registration form for their alarm system online by visiting www.famspermit.com/Providence. Downloadable forms can also be printed, completed and submitted via mail, with $10.00 fee included, to: City of Providence False Alarm Management Program, P.O. Box 143185, Irving, TX 75014.
