UPDATE: The Providence City Council’s Committee on Ordinances approved the amended Comprehensive Plan on Monday, October 21st. The plan is expected to recieve its first vote in front of the whole City Council on November 7th.
City Council Hearing
The Providence City Council will host a continued public hearing on the Comprehensive Plan on Monday, October 21st, at 5:30PM. The hearing will be held in the City Council Chamber, on the 3rd floor of Providence City Hall (25 Dorrance Street), and streamed on Youtube by the City Council.
If you are unable to attend the hearing but would like to share testimony, submit it via email to cityclerk@providenceri.gov by no later than 3PM on Friday, October 18th.

In advance of the City Council hearing, the Department of Planning and Development gave an informational presentation to Councilmembers on September 11th. The once-a-decade update of the PVD Comprehensive Plan calls for a robust community engagement process. Over the last year+, the Department of Planning and Development has facilitated community participation in several formats and at multiple steps of the planning process to encourage broad participation from Providence’s diverse stakeholders. Click here to review a summary of what we’ve heard so far. Methods have included: In Spring 2024, the community engagement process transitioned from feed-in to feedback. The Department of Planning and Development unveiled draft Comprehensive Plan proposals (crafted based on input received thus far) and asked for community feedback.
