PROVIDENCE, RI – Mayor Jorge O. Elorza today announced that the Providence School Board Nominating Commission is seeking qualified applicants to serve on the Providence School Board.
“The Providence School Board plays an important role in the transformational changes we are continuing to make into our schools,” said Mayor Jorge Elorza. “I encourage those committed to improving the experience of our youth, reimagining our education system, and supporting our families to apply today.”
The School Board works to establish a policy that guides the Superintendent in the administration and operation of the schools, monitoring progress towards direct goals, and engaging the community in supporting schools. Each appointment term totals three years, with this year’s applicants beginning in 2021 and ending in 2024. School board members whose terms are expiring may apply and be considered for reappointment.
The application deadline is 4:30PM on Friday, December 11, 2020 and the job description, application, and more information are available online. Additionally, the Nominating Commission will conduct a virtual public forum with selected applicants on December 15, 2020 at 5:30PM via Zoom. Once applicants have completed both steps, the Commission will make recommendations to the Mayor and the Mayor’s school board nominees are reviewed by the City Council.
