PROVIDENCE, RI – Mayor Jorge O. Elorza, City Councilman Michael Correia (Ward 6), and the Providence Recreation and Public Property Departments today announced the completion of interior renovations at Joslin Recreation Center, located at 17 Hyat Street in Providence.
“Over the past 8 years, we have been investing in neighborhood institutions that build community and bring neighbors together, like the Joslin Recreation Center,” said Mayor Jorge O. Elorza. “These investments have helped us create safe, supportive spaces for our kids, provide meaningful opportunities for young adults, drive down crime to historically low levels, and create healthier, thriving neighborhoods.”
Joslin Recreation Center improvements were completed by Torrado Architects and Martone Inc. and included extensive interior finishes, including improved elevator entrances, upgrades to the media center and new floors and windows in the southwest wing. While renovations began in 2020, work was paused during the pandemic and recently completed.
“I would like to thank the Departments of Recreation and Public Property for their hard work on this project,” said Councilman Michael Correia (Ward 6). “Joslin Rec Center has long been a place where children in our community come to have fun with friends, learn, and feel safe. These new infrastructure improvements will amplify and expand the many resources that this recreation center provides. Investing in these kinds of initiatives is what keeps our kids healthy, happy and prospering.”
The $1,750,000 Joslin Recreation Center project is part of the City’s coordinated Capital Infrastructure Investments. Progress and project updates on Providence’s infrastructure projects are documented on the City’s Infrastructure Project Dashboard, which can be found at providenceri.gov/infrastructure. The Providence Infrastructure Project Dashboard makes tracking ongoing infrastructure projects citywide more transparent and accessible for Providence residents. The new online dashboard provides information about recently completed, ongoing and planned construction projects throughout the city.
Joslin Recreation Center is open Monday through Friday from 3:00PM to 8:30PM and Saturday from 9:00AM to 2:00PM. The center offers supplemental meals, computer labs and programming such as after school tutoring, sports programming, arts and culture programs and a youth social club.
