Providence, RI- Mayor Jorge O. Elorza today announced that the City’s collection drive to support communities in Texas impacted by Hurricane Harvey has been extended to Monday, September 11, 2017.
On a conference call last week officials from Texas stressed the immediate need for toiletries, cleaning supplies and diapers. In an effort to support that request, the City of Providence is accepting such items at Providence City Hall (25 Dorrance Street, Room 101, Mayor’s Center for City Services; Open 8:30AM-4:30PM) and the Providence Public Safety Complex (325 Washington Street, Open 24/7, residents are required to buzz in after 3:00PM). The City will join regional efforts to transport the supplies to the Greater Houston Area in the following weeks. All donations should be dropped off by September 11. The City will be accepting the following items:
- Disposable Diapers
- Baby Formula
- New Cleaning Supplies
- New Toiletries
- Non-perishable Food
- New Clothing and Blankets
Residents are encouraged to call 3-1-1 with any questions on the coordinated support efforts. Providence residents and business owners are encouraged to register for the CodeRED emergency notification system to receive weather and emergency updates in their area.
