Providence, RI: The Providence Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) will hold a one-day, multi-agency shelter exercise at the Providence Career and Technical Academy (PCTA) on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Functional Shelter Exercise designated “Operation Fallout Shelter” will test the prepared emergency response to an unplanned disaster that causes the evacuation of a neighborhood in Providence.
This exercise provides PEMA and its public and private partners an opportunity to practice existing shelter and evacuation plans, identify issues, and make any necessary improvements. The coordinated exercise will be conducted in partnership with the Providence Police Department, Providence Fire Department, Providence Telecommunications Department, Providence Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Providence Animal Shelter, RI Emergency Management Agency, North Providence Fire Department, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Johnson & Wales University Office of Campus Safety & Security, Women & Infants Hospital Office of Safety and Emergency Preparedness, CCRI Emergency Management Club, and the U.S. Naval War College’s Humanitarian Response Program.
