PROVIDENCE, RI – The Providence Public Safety Department, in cooperation with Johnson & Wales University and waterfront businesses, will be conducting an annual shelter-in-place drill of the commercial facilities located in the Port of Providence next Monday, November 26, 2018.
The primary goal of this disaster drill is to test the Providence Emergency Management Agency’s emergency plans for the Port of Providence and also provide each facility and business in the area with an opportunity to test their internal shelter-in-place plans.
First responders will be activating the Port of Providence Emergency Siren Warning System (PPESWS) and the Emergency Notification System (CodeRed mobile app) between 11:00am and 1:00pm to notify facilities in the Port area to shelter-in-place drills.
These sirens may be audible in surrounding communities. The message will be preceded by:
“This is a drill.”
Participating agencies will include the Providence Police Department, Providence Fire Department, Providence Emergency Management Agency, Providence Telecommunications, Johnson & Wales University and businesses located at the Port of Providence.
