Beginning in 2016, the Division of Forestry has instituted a citywide Block Pruning program, so that all street trees can be systematically pruned. This is a much more efficient maintenance system than relying solely on constituent pruning requests (we do continue to accept individual service requests).
The Block Pruning program prunes city trees on a 10-year cycle, working on roughly 10% of the trees each year (about 2,500 trees). The program is funded through the Helen Walker Raleigh Tree Care Trust Fund of the Rhode Island Foundation.
The ward map below displays the pruning plan.
